Autumn 2 Newsletter Starfish Class
Mrs Edwards, Mrs Hill and Mrs Goodlad
Welcome back to what will be a very busy half term in school. We hope that you have all had a good break.
Our topic this term is ‘To Infinity and Beyond’ and we will be learning all about space. We will be reading ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ and writing our own version of the story. We will also be reading and writing a factual piece on space and astronauts, as well as writing space poems and the Christmas Story. Please support your children by reminding them to use capital letters and full stops in their writing, as well as adjectives to make their work even more interesting.
In maths, we will return to addition, subtraction and number bonds. We are also planning to learn about time, multiplication and division.
In other subjects, we will be learning about The Gunpowder Plot, Remembrance Day and Diwali. In addition, we will be designing and making space ships, moon buggies and rockets, learning about the order of the planets, looking at the life of Neil Armstrong and making Vincent Van Gogh inspired art.
Homework and spellings.
Thank you for supporting your child with their homework and spellings – it really makes such a positive difference to their learning. Homework is handed out every Friday and then your child has until the following Friday to complete it. We find that it works best if spellings are kept at home for the whole week so that your child has plenty of opportunity to keep practising them. When homework is returned, please ensure that it is placed in the blue homework folder in the book boxes and ticked off on the homework grid at the back of the classroom. Your child will receive a treat at the end of the half term if this has been done every week.
We are always very grateful for any help in the classroom to support the children with either reading, small group work or making resources. Some parents have expressed an interest in getting involved in this and we would be very pleased to have you. Please see Mrs Edwards / Mrs Hill if this is something that you would like to do. There are some forms that you will need to complete which can be collected from the school office.
If your child has a speaking part in our performance, they will have brought back their lines to practise with you at home. This can count as one of their ‘three times at home’ reading entries.
