 Week 6 Ice Castles

PE Kits and equipment

Since your children have joined us in September they have grown considerably. We would like to ask you to check their PE kits still fit particularly their plimsolls. Our taught PE sessions remain on Monday every week and a Wednesday afternoon extra slot every fourth Wednesday. We would like to ask you to make sure your child’s named PE kit is on their peg at the beginning of each and every week. It might be nice to take them home for a wash ready to use next week. Also, we would like to ask you to check that your child has their own pair of wellies which fit them in their square under their pegs, thank you.

This term in Numeracy the children will be extending their counting skills by looking at additions and subtraction. We will begin by revising recognition of all numerals up to 20. We will then continue to use and apply our counting and number skills. We will be learning about capacity and will be making magic potions!! We will be looking at ordinal numbers and using and making tally charts. Please support this learning in any way you can at home.

Through Literacy this term the children will be looking at a variety of texts including fiction and non-fiction. All of the books we look at will have a common theme of ‘Winter Wonderland’. Texts include ‘Can’t You Sleep Little Bear?’, ‘A Little Bit of Winter’ ‘The Polar Bear and the Snow Cloud’, ‘The Snow Queen’ and ‘Frozen’. The children will continue to develop their reading and writing skills through daily phonics sessions and apply this in Literacy sessions. We will continue to work on how letters are formed and the children will be encouraged to write for different purposes. We will be making information leaflets and a Big Book all about Winter.

Reading at home

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support with your child’s reading, they are making fantastic progress. It is fantastic to see the children so enthusiastic towards their reading.  It is lovely to see so many of you reading on a regular basis with them and changing their book frequently as it really does make such a difference. Please continue to encourage the children to recognise the sounds in words and blend them together for reading. Please feel free to bring in any story books your child would like to share during our reading time at the end of the day.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your help and support so far this year. We were overwhelmed with the amount of visitors on Christmas Decoration day which makes your children and us very proud. We very much enjoy your visits and thoroughly appreciate your support. We would like to ask if you have any spare time to invite you to come in and support our children with reading and completing activities and tasks. Please see your class teacher if you are able to do this.

Thank you once again, we look forward to completing another successful term with you, the Reception Team.
