Rainbow Fish Spring 4 newsletter

Last term the children really enjoyed learning about ‘Pirates’ and this term we will be learning about gardening in our topic ‘Deep Down Underground. We will be learning about different plants and trees and what can be found under the ground.

In Literacy we will be looking at factual books and powerpoints and learning how to write a factual piece of information about things underground. We will also be writing some instructions about planting cress. We will be concentrating on working independently and writing longer sentences using or phonics to help spell words. We will also be using our on-going skills of full stops, capital letters and finger spaces. If your children do any writing at home please help them to remember these things and send it in to school for us to see.

In Numeracy we will be looking at addition and subtraction and measuring different lengths.

We will be continuing with our ‘BIG Write’ and the children’s completed work will be placed on the writing wall. Please feel free to look at your child’s work with them to see how they are improving each time.

Our theme for Science this term is naming and exploring plants and trees

Reading at home.

Last term we had more children who had read 3 times at home every week and they received a treat. We will be doing it again this term and keeping a log of who reads every week.

In school we teach the children the skills that they need to read. In order for them to progress and become fluent readers, it is essential that they get the opportunity to practise reading at home so that they can use the skills that they have learnt. Not everybody has been reading at home so we are hoping to see more of this happening this term.

The children will have spellings sent home each week as well as the weekly homework in their booklet that they bring home at the beginning of the topic. A few children are completing their homework each week but this term we would like to see more of the class doing this. The spellings that we send home will help your child with their writing at school so please support us by ensuring that they are completed and practised each week
