Summer Term 6 Newsletter
Last term the children really enjoyed learning about ‘Once Upon a Time and this term we will be learning about Animals in our topic ‘Animal Kingdom’. We will be learning about a variety of different animals and looking at the differences and similarities of them.
In English we will be looking at poems about animals and creating our own riddles for them. We will also be looking at factual texts about different animals. We will be concentrating on writing independently and using our phonics to help us whilst at the same time remembering our full stops and capital letters and finger spaces. We will also be working on adding adjectives into our sentences. If your children do any writing at home please help them to remember these things and send it into school for us to see. We will be continuing with our ‘BIG Write’ and the children’s completed work will be placed on the writing wall. Please feel free to look at your child’s work with them to see how they are improving each time.
In Maths we will be looking at addition and subtraction whilst looking at measuring and shapes.
In Science we will be looking at the features of animals/creatures and sorting them into different groups whilst at the same time learning about different types of animals such as reptiles and mammals.
In Art we will be looking at the patterns of different animals and creating our own prints.
At some point during the week beginning the 13th June your child will be taking part in the phonics screening. This is no different to what we have been doing in school and what the children have been taking home to practise. Rest assured that we will make this as normal as possible for your child and they won’t even realise that they are doing a test. You will be told whether your child has passed the test or not towards the end of the school year.
As you know this year we have been trying to raise as much money as we can to allow us to provide a free treat to your child at the end of the year. We have almost raised enough to take the whole class to the cinema to see ‘The Secret Life of Pets’ which will also link in with our topic for this term. We will let you know the details nearer the time. This is something that I am sure your children will enjoy doing as a reward for all of their hard work this year.
