Welcome to term 4: I can’t believe we have completed over half of the year!
Can I take this opportunity to thank all parents for the support you have given your child throughout the year: They are making good progress and are benefitting from the extra learning through homework projects and weekly homework.
During this topic the children will be learning lots about life ‘underground’ looking closely at plants and worms!!!
The children will engage in many outdoor learning opportunities including growing their own plants, recognising and naming trees, plants and flowers and investigating life down under! We will also grow our own ‘cress heads’
The Wonderful Whale class have also been given an exciting outdoor learning opportunity through ‘Forest Schools’. Every Wednesday for six weeks, Mrs Kirkwood will take them out on the school grounds to learn through the ‘Forest Schools Scheme’. PLEASE remember your wellies and warm coats!
Below are a few key dates to remember:
Wednesday 18th February we will be celebrating the Chinese New Year
Friday 13th March we will be celebrating Red Nose Day
Tuesday 17th March we will be celebrating St Patrick’s Day
Week beginning 23rd March: Easter week (CHOCOLATE TIME!!!)
This term in Maths the children will be learning many things including: calculations (adding and subtracting), measurement (capacity/volume – full empty, half full, quarter full; length/ heights – long, short, tall; mass/weight – heavy, full; time – quick, slower, later, earlier.) We will also be learning more about shape and space. Please support their learning in any way you can at home. If you require any additional resources to support your child, please don’t hesitate to ask!
Through Literacy this term the children will be looking at a variety of texts fiction and non-fiction. First we will be reading the story of Jack & the Beanstalk and sequencing it. We will also be reading non- fiction texts about plants, growing and worms. We will then write instructions on how to make a wormery and an egg and cress sandwich.
Finally we will be writing reports on how Spire celebrates Easter.
The children will be learning to read key words in these texts and read short sentences. They will also be learning to write short stories about the text we have read… We will be paying particular attention to how letters are correctly formed, how to spell simple words and how to use punctuation in sentences. Wow, we will be learning lots!!
