Each week will have a different focus these are:

Week 1 Light and dark
Week 2 Seasons
Week 3 Changes to our world
Week 4 Winter around the world
Week 5 Cause and Effect
 Week 6 Ice Castles

PE Kits and equipment

Since your children have joined us in September they have grown considerably. We would like to ask you to check their PE kits still fit particularly their plimsolls. Our taught PE sessions remain on Monday every week and a Wednesday afternoon extra slot every fourth Wednesday. We would like to ask you to make sure your child’s named PE kit is on their peg at the beginning of each and every week. It might be nice to take them home for a wash ready to use next week. Also, we would like to ask you to check that your child has their own pair of wellies which fit them in their square under their pegs, thank you.

This term in Numeracy the children will be extending their counting skills by looking at additions and subtraction. We will begin by revising recognition of all numerals up to 20. We will then continue to use and apply our counting and number skills. We will be learning about capacity and will be making magic potions!! We will be looking at ordinal numbers and using and making tally charts. Please support this learning in any way you can at home.

Through Literacy this term the children will be looking at a variety of texts including fiction and non-fiction. All of the books we look at will have a common theme of ‘Winter Wonderland’. Texts include ‘Can’t You Sleep Little Bear?’, ‘A Little Bit of Winter’ ‘The Polar Bear and the Snow Cloud’, ‘The Snow Queen’ and ‘Frozen’. The children will continue to develop their reading and writing skills through daily phonics sessions and apply this in Literacy sessions. We will continue to work on how letters are formed and the children will be encouraged to write for different purposes. We will be making information leaflets and a Big Book all about Winter.

Reading at home

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support with your child’s reading, they are making fantastic progress. It is fantastic to see the children so enthusiastic towards their reading.  It is lovely to see so many of you reading on a regular basis with them and changing their book frequently as it really does make such a difference. Please continue to encourage the children to recognise the sounds in words and blend them together for reading. Please feel free to bring in any story books your child would like to share during our reading time at the end of the day.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your help and support so far this year. We were overwhelmed with the amount of visitors on Christmas Decoration day which makes your children and us very proud. We very much enjoy your visits and thoroughly appreciate your support. We would like to ask if you have any spare time to invite you to come in and support our children with reading and completing activities and tasks. Please see your class teacher if you are able to do this.

Thank you once again, we look forward to completing another successful term with you, the Reception Team.

Headteachers BlogLatest News: School Closure Update

We are delighted to be able to tell you that the drainage problem (caused by incorrect installation by the contractors who built the  new reception classes) will be resolved by the end of this week. Specialists will also complete all their work by the end of the week, ensuring that the entire school is clean. Therefore, all classes will be able to return to their rooms when we return to school on 4th January.

You will be as upset as we were that the children weren’t able to complete all their Christmas preparations before the end of the term, including their performances. So, we have decided that the Christmas performances will take place when we return to school in January. We hope that you will agree that the children will be excited to do this for you.

The performance dates and times for each class are as follow:

  • Dolphins: Thursday 5th January at 9.45 am
  • Turtles: Friday 6th January at 9.45am
  • Whales: Friday 6th January at 1.45pm
  • Bees: Monday 9th January at 9.45 am
  • Seahorses & Jellyfish: Tuesday 10th January at 9.45 am and 1.45 pm

Tickets that you have already been given will be valid for the new performance dates/times.

We hope you have a Very Happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

Headteachers BlogLatest News: School Closure Update

Following their visit today, we have been told by the cleaning contractors that we will not be able to open the school until 3rd January. We are obviously very disappointed by this, but want to ensure that the work is carried out effectively.

However, the  nursery visit to the theatre and the Y2 visit to London will still go ahead as planned on Friday. Nursery parents should meet staff at the Rose theatre as previously arranged and Y2 parents should meet staff at the Church Street South entrance to the school at 6.45am.

We will, of course, update you when we get any further information.

In the meantime, we wish you all a very Happy Christmas.

Headteachers BlogLatest News: School closure

Dear Parents/Carers,

We have a problem with drains on the school site which may have resulted in the escape of sewage onto school grounds.

For this reason we must close the school immediately in order to rectify the situation. At this point in time, it is unclear how long this will take, but we will keep you informed via text message of the situation.

In the meantime you are advised to wash your child’s school clothes and disinfect footwear in case this has come into contact with any possible contamination.

Thank you
