Our Spring term 3 topic is… Once upon a time!
During this topic we will be learning about a range of traditional stories.
Below are the stories we will be focusing on each week:
|Week 2||Jack & the Beanstalk|
|Week 3||The Three Little Pigs|
|Week 4||Goldilocks and the Three Bears|
|Week 5||The Elves and the Shoemaker|
Literacy: This term in Literacy the children will be reading a range of traditional stories. The children will also be reading alternative books that make links to the traditional stories and discussing the similarities and differences.
During this term the children will be writing character descriptions, police interviews, wanted posters and their own version of the stories.
Our focus in writing will be punctuating sentences correctly and writing extended sentences using a range of connectives and ambitious vocabulary.
Throughout the Literacy units we are focusing on editing and improving our work through ‘Big Write’ sessions. After each ‘Big Write’, Mrs Kirkwood will choose a wizard writer; this is someone who has tried really hard with their writing. The wizard writer’s work will be displayed in the classroom and in the ‘Wizard Writer’ folder.
This term the children will be learning to count in steps of 2, 3 and 5. They will be comparing and ordering numbers up to 100; and adding and subtracting two two-digit numbers and three one-digit numbers.They will be learning to use appropriate standard units to estimate and measure mass (kg/g) and read relevant scales to the nearest numbered unit.The children will be learning to identify and describe the properties of 3D shapes and using this to sort and compare.
Homework will still be sent home every Friday and is due in the following Friday. There will also be a chart up in the classroom for homework (near the classroom door), your child will get a star each week for completing their homework and then be rewarded at the end of the term with a prize and certificate if they have completed their homework every week. The homework that is sent home will be closely linked with the literacy or numeracy that we have been doing during the week. Please continue to hear your child read regularly at home.
Reading at school
We are now having daily guided reading sessions in school. During this time your child may have the opportunity to share their favourite book, comic or magazine with a friend. Your child can bring a magazine, comic or book of their choice from home to read.
Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday’s; please ensure that your child brings their book bag, water bottle and PE kit to school every day.
Thank you for your support.
