Super Squirrels
Introducing our Spring Term 4 topic….’Make a Splash!’

The children will be learning lots of fun things based around the sea this term! They will have the opportunity to board a big ship in the role play area. In Science they will be carrying out a waterproof investigation and they will experiment with water to understand what causes waves in the sea. In Geography we will be locating continents and the main oceans. We will also be having a History day based on The Titanic.

English: This term in English we will be reading under the sea themed stories. One of the main stories that we will be reading is The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. Children will have the opportunity to read and compare alternative stories and use these to write their very own adventure story based around the storyline of the Rainbow fish.
The children will also be researching about The Titanic and using the facts that they find to write letters.
Children will be encouraged to write more detailed sentences using a range of conjunctions (and, because, then, so), ambitious vocabulary and a range of punctuation.
The children are trying really hard with their cursive writing and we will be continuing to encourage children to use this throughout their writing.

Maths: This term in Maths we will be learning about 3D shapes: please look around the local environment and encourage your child to recognise them. Fractions are also being taught, so please encourage your child to cut up paper or vegetables into halves and quarters. We will be learning different measurements, turns, directions and positioning, As SAT’s are getting closer, it is vital that the children need to gain a secure, understanding of the many skills involved especially calculations so please ask the class teacher which aspect of maths is being taught each week so you can consolidate their learning through other activities at home.

End of Key Stage 1 Tests (SATs):
The end of Key Stage 1 tests will be administered in May so the next two months are very important. We will be supporting and encouraging your child to have a good attitude to learning everyday so that they are ready to achieve their full potential.

Homework & Spellings:
We would like to thank you for taking the time to complete homework with your child.
We will continue to send homework home every week.
