Other Information
Our PE day is Thursday, please ensure that your child brings their book bag, water bottle and PE kit to school every day. Please ensure that any clothes your child brings to school are clearly labelled so we can ensure they go home with the correct child. Children are encouraged to play outside in all weathers, please send your child with a pair of wellies to be kept at school.

Observations at home
In reception we take observations of children throughout the year. These will be emailed home to you at the end of each term via the email address you have provided in your starter pack. We are always interested in finding out about milestones your children have achieved outside of school. In the classroom we have a ‘Golden Moments’ display where you can take a golden coin and write on it anything that your child has achieved at home. For example; if they dress themselves independently for the first time or if they demonstrate sharing and taking turns.

Morning work
Morning work happens at the start of every day from 8:40-9.00. This is a good opportunity to settle the children and for you to be involved in the school day. Morning work may include activities such as handwriting, reading and recording family news.

Reading
From Monday 10th September we will begin giving children a reading book and a reading diary. Your children will be assessed by their class teacher and given an appropriate book. We will also give children key words to read over the next few weeks. We encourage you to hear your child read at least three times each week and we will monitor this every Friday morning. In school we teach children to read using phonics and these sessions happen daily. We will be holding a phonics workshop for parents and carers to attend so that you can see what we do and it will hopefully help you understand how to support your child at home.

We are very excited for the year ahead and look forward to seeing your children grow and develop. If you have any questions or you are worried please do not hesitate to ask any of the reception team.

Thank you for your support, The Reception Team.
