Reading at Home
Please continue to listen to your child read at home. The children are now equipped with some early reading skills which they need to practise in order to continue to progress. Please feel free to change your child’s reading book as often as needed and see a member of staff if your child needs new pencil words.

This term the children will be continuing to learn new letters and sounds in phonics. Some children are now learning ‘diagraphs’, these are 2 letters that make one sound ie sh, ee, oo.
They will be given opportunities to blend these sounds in reading activities as well as segmenting sounds to spell words in writing. They will also be learning how to read and spell high frequency words.
The children will also share a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry books relating to our learning theme.

This term the children will begin by continuing their work on number recognition and counting. They will also learn tallies, capacity, ordinal numbers and 3d shape.

This term we will continue with our weekly PE lessons in the hall every Monday afternoon. Please ensure that PE kits are returned after Christmas, are labelled with your child’s name and that pumps still fit! The children seem to be growing at an alarming rate!
This term the children will be accessing balance bike training in school which will equip them with the necessary skills to participate in the Balance Bike Festival at Queen’s Park in January.

As always, thank you for your continued support in your child’s learning journey, please see a member of staff if you have and queries. We will keep you updated with other news via Class Dojo.
