Our Autumn term 2 topic is… Light and Ignite!
During this topic we will be learning about Bonfire Night, Guy Fawkes, Remembrance Day and The Great Fire of London.
Below are the themes for each week:
|Week 1||Bonfire Night|
|Week 2||Remembrance Day|
|Week 3 & 4||The Great Fire of London|
|Week 5 & 6||Dragon’s|
Literacy: This term in Literacy the children will be reading and writing poems about bonfire night. They will be identifying poetry features, including rhyme, repetition and alliteration. The children will be learning about The Great Fire of London. We will be using the internet and our school library to research and find information out about The Great Fire of London and the children will then be using their findings to write their own diary extract. Our focus in writing will be punctuating sentences correctly and writing extended sentences using a range of connectives and ambitious vocabulary. Throughout the Literacy units we are focusing on editing and improving our work through ‘Big Write’ sessions. After each ‘Big Write’, Mrs Kirkwood will choose a wizard writer; this is someone who has tried really hard with their writing. The wizard writer’s work will be displayed in the classroom and in the ‘Wizard Writer’ folder.
Spellings: Your child will continue to receive new spellings to learn every Friday. Please continue to help your child to practice these spellings ready for their spelling test the following Friday.
This term in Numeracy the children will be learning to solve addition and subtraction problems up to 100. They will be learning to tell and write the time to 5 minutes, including quarter past and quarter to the hour. The children will be using the multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 times tables to solve multiplication and division problems. They will also be learning how to collect and record information using tally charts and bar charts.
Homework will still be sent home every Friday and is due in the following Friday. There will also be a chart up in the classroom for homework (near the classroom door), your child will get a star each week for completing their homework and then be rewarded at the end of the term with a prize and certificate if they have completed their homework every week. The homework that is sent home will be closely linked with the literacy or numeracy that we have been doing during the week.
Reading at school
We are now having daily guided reading sessions in school. During this time your child may have the opportunity to share their favourite book, comic or magazine with a friend. Your child can bring a magazine, comic or book of their choice from home to read.
Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday’s; please ensure that your child brings their book bag, water bottle and PE kit to school every day. Thank you for your support.
